Your mat is not just a practice accessory: it's your sacred space, the place where you connect with yourself and your breath. Taking proper care of it not only prolongs its life but also honors your commitment to a conscious and balanced practice.
At Chio Studio, we believe in the power of simple, sustainable rituals that are respectful of the materials we use. Here’s how to keep your mat clean and in optimal condition.
How to clean your mat safely
🖤 Avoid oily or harsh products
We do not recommend using products containing tea tree oil or any oily ingredients. These can leave residues that affect the non-slip texture and, over time, deteriorate the material.
🖤 Gentle, homemade solution
For an effective and delicate cleaning, mix clean water with a single drop of dish soap (neutral and fragrance-free). You don't need more to keep your mat well-maintained. Another option is to add 3 drops of cleaning vinegar.
🖤 Correct application
Dampen a soft cloth with this solution, wring it out well so it doesn't drip, and wipe the surface with gentle movements. There's no need to rub hard or soak the material.
🖤 Air dry (out of direct sunlight)
Once clean, lay the mat flat on a surface and let it air dry, away from direct sunlight. Avoid rolling it while it's damp, as this can deform its shape and encourage odors to appear.
🖤 What to avoid?
Never soak the mat or submerge it in water. Also, do not use industrial sprays or multi-purpose cleaners. Excess moisture or harsh chemicals can ruin its surface and compromise its durability.
Taking care of your mat is a way of taking care of your practice and reminding yourself that every gesture, however small it may seem, has an impact. A clean, dry, and well-maintained mat is the reflection of a conscious and present practice.
